DANTE – The Network for Sustainable Tourism Development

DANTE is a network of 15 initiatives and non-governmental organisations from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, specialised in tourism, environment and development. DANTE is a platform for exchange of knowledge and experience as well as co-operation for sustainable tourism development.

The members of DANTE

share the vision of and strive for responsible forms of tourism which are considerate of the culture and life styles of the people, which create income, ensure the equal participation of all those affected, protect nature and generally promote the sustainable development of tourist destinations. DANTE actively and critically accompanies political processes in tourism at international, European and national levels. This includes the question of how and under which conditions tourism can contribute to sustainable development and what political framework is required.

The members of DANTE carry out analyses, provide special reports and co-operate in various contexts and with different emphases particularly in the fields of information and education, lobbying and campaigning. DANTE as a network is open to dialogue with the different stakeholders in tourism and provides competent advice, stimulus and practical guidance for the implementation of measures that contribute to sustainable development.
